Book End Bookshop
Book End Bookshop, the book shop by the bridge, is our small second hand book shop on the banks of the River Wye in Bakewell. We are the last shop before you reach the river side path or, alternatively, the first shop you come to when you come in from the various car parks.
The book shop is run by volunteers and all the books are donated by the community. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who are knowledgeable about books and passionate about supporting BECT and giving our visitors a great experience.
The books on sale cover a wide range of genres. We have around 2000 books on the shelves at any one time. BUT, our stock is ever changing so we do not have a catalogue.
Fiction - there is a vast array of gardening, cookery, biographies and humour. We have a good range of art books and a comprehensive history section including military history.
Local Walk Books - we sell a range of new books about the area and a selection of guides to Peak District walks, short and long. We have a range of OS Maps for walkers and motorists.
Collectables - we are lucky to have a selection of more unusual books. The occasional first edition, older and out of print books, both fiction and non fiction. We have some lovely editions of classics such as Dickens and Trollope. These are displayed at the book shop and sold at specialist sales at Bakewell Town Hall.
Our aim is to support BECT financially, raise awareness of BECT and the vital work it does for the community. Our dream is to buy a specially adapted bus to add to the fleet, so please help us and donate in any way that you feel able to.
Donate Your Books
We are always happy to accept donations of books, especially non fiction. So if you have a few history books gathering dust on the shelf please give them a new home with us so that we can pass them on to grateful new owners!
You can bring the books into the shop or to the BECT Office at Great Longstone during office hours. Passengers with small bags of books can also pass them to the driver of their bus.
Donate Your Time
Book End is thriving thanks to all the wonderful donations and our hard working volunteers. We'd like to open 7 days a week during the Summer so, if you can spare a few hours, especially on a Tuesday or Wednesday, we'd love to hear from you!
If you know of any teenagers in need of occupation and references, do ask them to get in touch - volunteering is good for the C.V.
